On June 23, Olivia Rodrigo announced her own music festival, Daisy Chain Fields. Headlined by Rodrigo, riot grrrl band Bikini Kill, pop singer-songwriter Chappell Roan, rapper Doechii, singer-songwriter Mitski, grunge band Garbage, girl group KATSEYE, Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah Mclachlan, and many more. The announcement came two weeks after the release of her third album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. Daisy Chain Fields’ entire net proceeds will go to charities dedicated to advancing and advocating for women and girls.
The festival will take place at Great Park in Irvine, California, on August 29.
Rodrigo announced on Instagram that the festival was a dream come true, believing the festival would encourage the community to be involved in advocating for women’s rights. Moreover, Rodrigo stated in a Pitchfork cover story that, for Daisy Chain Fields, she feels like audiences would “need something really positive to do and see, and young girls need awesome role models who are supporting other women and who are engaging in something that’s really joyful and musical and community-oriented.”
The festival was inspired by McLachlan’s Lilith Fair, which ran from 1997 to 1999. The festival was McLachlan’s reaction to the music industry tokenizing female artists in live tours and festivals at the time.
