Most of us have gone through a phase where we look at a horrible person and go, “I can fix him.” Well, Olivia Rodrigo takes that thought one step further by playing nurse in the music video for her latest single, “the cure.”

Featuring handcrafted stop-motion animation by Cat Solen and J Aime,  the MV follows Rodrigo as she mixes bubbly chemicals in her lab, tracks patient records on an embroidered log chart, and experiments on stop-motion hearts. Love a woman in STEM!

At the same time, though, Rodrigo’s giving us one of the sadder singles of her upcoming album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, to date. “I thought I found the antidote this time,” our pop punk princess laments as she tries to fix a fridge-full of broken hearts. “I thought I found the antidote with you.”

“This song is the thesis statement of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” wrote Rodrigo in an Instagram post announcing the single’s release. “It made the whole album click for me.” Earlier this week, Rodrigo also deemed “the cure” her favorite song on the album and one of her favorite songs she’s ever made.

While we’ll need to sit tight for her third album to drop on June 12, Rodrigo’s made sure that we have enough content to tide us over until then. “the cure” is now out on vinyl and cassette, and purchasing either of these will also grant you access to her exclusive bonus song, “never do,” which won’t be featured on the album. She’s also already released “drop dead” and premiered “begged” while she was working double duty on Saturday Night Live earlier this May.
