Sublime announced their new album, Until the Sun Explodes, their first in three decades, set for release on June 12. The LP arrives with Jakob Nowell stepping in as frontman, following the death of his father and the band’s original vocalist, Bradley Nowell. The music video for the album’s title track was filmed around Long Beach and features cameos from pro skateboarders Christian Hosoi and Omar Hassan.
In 2024, Jakob officially took on the role of lead singer in front of thousands at the Coachella Music Festival. As the reunited band returned to a major stage, Sublime became part of a broader ska-punk revival at that year’s festival, alongside No Doubt, who performed together for the first time in nearly a decade.
The band was formed in 1988 by bassist Eric Wilson, drummer Bud Gaugh, and singer-guitarist Bradley Nowell. The band released their debut album, 40oz. to Freedom, in 1992, followed by Robbin’ the Hood in 1994. Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, two months before the release of the band’s self-titled album.
