Rock band Oasis is among those inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. The list of artists also includes other legends like Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Sade, Billy Idol, Wu-Tang Clan, Luther Vandross, and Joy Division/New Order. The Manchester Britpop titans shook the global rock scene with arena hits such as “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Stand By Me,” and “Live Forever,” fronted by lead vocalist Liam Gallagher and lead guitarist, former rival, and older brother Noel Gallagher. Both brothers have had a colorful history of going back and forth years prior to the induction. On a random day online, Liam went on a spat about how he never needed the induction years ago.
Funnily enough, Gallagher had to eat crow and accept the honor, posting on X on April 14: “Reverse psychology vibes in the area Oasis RnR hall of farmers I mean famers,” Gallagher says. “I wanna thank all the people who voted for us it’s a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I’d dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of fame it’s true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream.”
Back in 2024, Gallagher went on X to say that singer Mariah Carey should be inducted, adding that she “smashed it” and would prefer her to be inducted instead of Oasis — Carey was a nominee for a third year in a row but was never officially inducted. “Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LG. You know it [sic] I don’t need some wank award by some geriatric in a cowboy hat. As much as it’s appreciated, it’s all a load of bollox.” But becoming part of the same class as Joy Division/New Order, Wu-Tang Clan, and Iron Maiden doesn’t read like a load of “bollox” anymore.
