With the recent release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it looks like casting is underway for one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) next projects, an X-Men movie.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed in June 2025 that Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts*, is also on board to direct the new film about our beloved mutants. Feige told Comic Book Resources, “X-Men, as it was in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused, and cast movie.” According to Collider, Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear showrunner are also involved in the project, which is expected for a 2028 release.
Who’s in the Cast?
Brand New Day debuted Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink as the MCU’s Jean Grey, originally played by Famke Janssen in 20th Century Fox’s first three X-Men movies and Sophie Turner in the prequel tetralogy. But who stars alongside Sink?
Sources told Deadline that meetings and auditions were held over the last two months, and that a small group of actors tested for their roles in July. While Marvel Studios has yet to issue an official announcement of the cast, Samara Weaving is reportedly in talks to play the new Emma Frost, following January Jones’ portrayal of the supervillain in X-Men: First Class.
Heartstopper’s Kit Connor is also reported to be the top choice for Scott Summers/Cyclops, according to Deadline, taking the role from Ty Sheridan in the prequels. Other rumored candidates for Cyclops include Cooper Hoffman and Drew Starkey. In the meantime, James Marsden, who first played Scott in the original movies, is set to reprise the role alongside Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto in Avengers: Doomsday, confirming that the upcoming film will be another major crossover event.
