This March, a new documentary exploring the famed Filipino band Eraserheads is set to hit theaters nationwide for one weekend only.
Directed by filmmaker Maria Diane Ventura, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run delves into the generation-defining rock band through the untold story of their break up, featuring rare, archival footage and never-before-seen interviews. The film also offers unprecedented access into Eraserheads’ historic “Huling El Bimbo” reunion concert in 2022 at a time of political divisiveness in the Philippines.
“This is a comprehensive deconstruction of the band’s mythology, humanity, complex relationship, and the lasting mark they left on Filipino culture — one that transcends generations and differences,” Ventura said. The filmmaker also notes how the documentary took over 30 reshoots over the last two years, undergoing 58 versions with four different editors.
“Notorious for their guarded aloofness, I’m incredibly lucky and grateful to have witnessed these men allowing themselves to open up in ways people have never seen them,” she recalls. “Their candidness and forthright honesty were a gift. It wasn’t just cathartic for them; it was transformative for me as a filmmaker and audience member. It gave me permission to reflect on my own truths, and I hope it does the same for others.”
Ventura is a Filipino-American producer, writer, and director whose credits include Therapist, a 2011 short featuring the late Cherie Gil, and Awaken, a 2014 feature-length starring Jake Cuenca, Ryan Eigenmann, and Loren Burgos for which she was awarded Best Director at the International Film Festival Manhattan. Her latest project, Deine Farbe (Your Color), won 22 awards in film festivals across Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America, and is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
Eraserheads: Combo On The Run will hit theaters nationwide from March 21 to 23. The film is produced by Dvent Pictures and WEU and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
