Jessica Soho, the most-awarded Filipino broadcast journalist, added another honor to her long list of accolades as she was inducted into the inaugural Rolling Stone Philippines Hall of Fame on Thursday, November 20. “Thank you very much for the honor and distinction, the time and space you gave me in your wonderful magazine,” she said in a recorded acceptance speech.

Presenting the honor was fellow broadcast journalist Rico Hizon, who said that Soho’s choice to stick to journalism “proved to alter not just her life but the course of Philippine journalism” as a whole. Hizon emphasized the role of the media in exposing corruption in the government and called for transparency and accountability.

Soho became the first Filipino to win a George Foster Peabody Award in 1999 for the i-Witness investigative documentaries “Kidneys for Sale” and “Kamao,” and even went on to win a second Peabody Award in 2014 for her coverage of Typhoon Yolanda. Beyond covering conflicts from Afghanistan to Mindanao, and disasters locally, Soho has become a household name for her long-running news magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, which features stories on events, pop culture, food, and celebrities, demonstrating her ability to reach all Filipino audiences.

While she was not able to attend the induction ceremony at the Peninsula Manila, Makati City, Sancia Palma, Executive Producer of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, accepted the honor on her behalf. In her recorded speech, Soho said, “Throughout my career, I have always believed in the power of stories to inspire, help people, and change lives — and hopefully, even our country — for the better.”
