On July 1, the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) will launch this year’s edition of Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP), a celebration of local music through live performances, open mic events, and artist discussions. First recognized in 2014 under Proclamation No. 933, LMP is a government-supported effort to promote Filipino music across the country.
Originally a weeklong event, the celebration has grown into a full month of programming. This year, OPM is staging shows across Marikina, Quezon City, and Makati, featuring a wide range of Filipino artists from different genres and generations.
Among the highlights are OPM Spotlight, a weekend series that features established musicians, and the OPM-IC: Open Mic Series, which gives newer artists a space to perform. The LMP25: Music Talk Series, created in partnership with FILSCAP and IPOPHL, will focus on music industry and community topics both online and in person. The Rockwell Series will also take place at Power Plant Mall in Makati throwing live performances in the venue.
Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino is a call to support Filipino artists with real attention and action. Local music is a vital part of our culture that deserves the time, energy, and respect of Filipino listeners throughout the year, especially in July. With government support and continued public engagement, Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino serves as a reminder that Filipino music is alive and well.
