Right now, there’s just no other male artist like Bruno Mars, whose flair for showmanship remains unmatched — at least in today’s mainstream. So, what do you do when you need to fill up a band to shoot a music video for your latest single? You get more Brunos.
On Friday, January 9, the 16-time Grammy-winner dropped his single “I Just Might” ahead of the February release of his newest album, The Romantic, and it’s already a sure hit, with the music video racking up over a million views on YouTube just hours after release.
Both the track and the music video draw on the 1970s disco and R&B feel that has colored the Filipino-American musician’s work since Mark Ronson’s 2014 hit “Uptown Funk,” which Mars lent his vocals to. While 2024’s “Die With A Smile” and 2025’s “APT.” lean more towards pop, “I Just Might” sees the singer returning to older sounds.
The song itself seems to borrow elements from Leo Sayer’s 1976 hit “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing” and Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love,” but amps up the fun and theatricality with a livelier beat and a music video where Mars dances with multiple copies of himself, all clad in green.
Showmanship has been a huge part of Mars’ work for a long time, but it reached its peak with 2021’s An Evening With Silk Sonic. The album, a collaboration with Anderson .Paak under the name Silk Sonic, and its accompanying visuals took heavy inspiration from ‘60s and ‘70s funk, disco, and soul. The track “Leave The Door Open” went on to sweep the 2022 Grammys, winning Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Best R&B Song.
And with “I Just Might,” and maybe even the rest of The Romantic, Mars just might take the world by storm again.
