Pop rock duo LANY have announced their sixth studio album, Soft, scheduled for release on October 10, with their latest single, “know you naked” dropping on August 1. The news followed a cryptic teaser on social media, where vocalist Paul Klein and drummer Jake Goss posted a photo with the caption, “it’s time to start acting like LANY again.” A few days later, the duo confirmed the album would contain 10 tracks, revealing the cover art that shows Klein holding a lamb across his chest.
The Los Angeles-based act built its early reputation on synth-driven, melancholic pop songs that gained a strong following in the Philippines. Tracks like “ILYSB,” “Malibu Nights,” “Mean It,” and “13” found their way into radio stations, mall playlists, and teenage heartbreak soundtracks across the country. While LANY’s rise was steady in the United States, their reception in the Philippines was immediate and outsized.
They first played in Manila at Wanderland Music and Arts Festival in March 2017. By August of the same year, they had mounted shows across five Ayala Malls, drawing massive crowds that led to the group’s first major arena booking in 2018 — two nights at Araneta Coliseum with both nights selling out. In 2019, LANY returned for five nights in the same venue, filling every seat each time. Last year, the band returned to the country in the Philippine Arena and stopped in Cebu for the first time at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino. Since then, their connection to their Filipino fanbase has only deepened, with Manila consistently ranking among their top streaming cities. The band’s new material arrives in a different pop landscape, but their hold on their core audience remains firm. If anything, SOFT looks to continue their role as a pop group that, for many Filipinos, has long felt like one of their own.
