Marikina’s alt-rock veterans Sandwich is teaming up with rising musician Suyen for a no-frills, high-voltage collaboration single called “basura.” The collaboration single will bring their own unique styles of performing and approach in songwriting, cutting a sharp line through the increasingly blurred lines of OPM’s alternative indie and mainstream scenes. The single will have its official launch on June 6 at 123Block in Mandala Park, Mandaluyong, with Ila and Kim Leo joining the bill.
Suyen came out in the music scene with her debut single “Sonic Tonic,” a grunge-pop earworm that carved its way through Metro Manila’s live circuit, including mainstay music venues like Imajin in Marikina and Mow’s in Quezon City.
Sandwich, meanwhile, needs no detailed primer. The band’s two-decade run of cult hits like “Sugod,” “Butterfly Carnival,” and “Betamax” has made them something of an essential compass in the rock scene. But this collaboration isn’t about legacy co-signs or a track that signals a blast from the past. For fans who’ve followed either act, the collaboration opens a new kind of dialogue, one where experience meets the unfiltered noise of what’s next.
Suyen’s debut EP Suyen Imnida came out last year via Filtered Music, while Sandwich released their latest EP Kaswal earlier this year.
