In a world where legacy acts often coast on the success of their past hits, Sandwich is proving they’re far from done. The iconic Filipino rock band is set to release their new EP, Kaswal, alongside a launch party on March 26 at Apotheka in Poblacion, Makati City. This follows their 2022 release No Goodbyes, marking a bold new chapter for the band.

Leading up to Kaswal, Sandwich dropped a series of singles that showcased their willingness to step out of their comfort zone. From the fun, catchy vibes of “Nyare” to the emotionally charged “Ibang Araw Na Lang,” the old-soul tribute “Morena,” and the recently released “Wag Ka Lang Kumagat,” the band has been teasing a sound that’s both familiar to their grungier roots, yet a refreshingly new take on modern-day alternative rock.

Kaswal seems to be an attempt by Sandwich to reintroduce themselves, following a video on TikTok which sees the band dressed to the nines against the dramatic backdrop of a spacious warehouse. Bassist Myrene Academia is “mahilig mag-ukay,” lead guitarist Diego Castillo is a “record collector,” drummer Mike Dizon is “not techy (old skool),” rhythm guitarist Mong Alcaraz is a “gearhead,” and frontman Raimund Marasigan “can’t be with fishes on the beach.” Their personalities, as quirky and distinct as they are, seem poised to bleed into the EP’s DNA.

Since the release of Debris in 2015, Sandwich has been steadily reinventing themselves. From celebrating the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album Grip, Stand, Throw to releasing hit singles such as Selos, Sugod, and Two Trick Pony, they’ve transcended different generations of rock music. With Kaswal, they’re signaling a new era—one where they’re free to experiment, take risks, and remind everyone why they’re one of the most enduring acts in the Philippine rock scene.

The launch of Kaswal EP on March 26 will feature opening acts from alternative rock projects like Suyen, Ozo, and Gloryen, along with a DJ set from The Diegos. Pre-sale tickets are available via Apotheka’s Helixpay page.
