Lando Norris has taken over his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in the Formula One (F1) drivers’ standings after winning at the Mexico Grand Prix this Sunday, October 26. The race puts him in the lead for the 2025 Drivers’ Championship.
The British driver managed to maintain his pole position at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, Mexico, until the race’s end, finishing first and gaining 25 points in the process. Joining him on the podium are Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in second place and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in third. Piastri also made 10 points from this race after finishing fifth, just after Haas’ Ollie Bearman.
Norris said his 10th career win was “a pretty straightforward race for me, which is just what I was after. Good start, good launch, good first lap, and I could go from there.”
Following the Mexico race, and with four to go this season, Norris takes the top spot in the F1 drivers’ standings at 357 points. But Piastri, who previously took the lead in the Drivers’ Championship, still follows very closely behind, at 356 points, making the competition tight between the McLaren drivers.
“The last couple of races have been surprising in terms of the pace,” Piastri said. “We have some evidence of where the pace is and what to do, but I’ve got to drive the car very differently these last couple of weekends, which, when it’s been working well for you for the previous 18 [races], is a little bit difficult to kind of wrap your head around.”
