Wicked fans are now one step closer to immersing themselves in Jon M. Chu’s world of flying monkeys, yellow brick roads, and misunderstood green witches. Wicked: For Good, the much-anticipated sequel to the first Academy Award-winning installment, will make history as the first film to premiere in the Philippines on ScreenX.
For the uninitiated, ScreenX is a type of theater format where the main screen extends onto the side walls to create a 270-degree panoramic view. This provides audiences with a more immersive moviegoing experience, mimicking the feeling of being directly in the action of the film. Other movies that have been shown in ScreenX theaters abroad are Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, Mickey 17, and F1: The Movie.
CJ 4DPLEX, a South Korean cinema technology company, announced the Philippines’ first ScreenX theater earlier this September. The theater is located at the SM Mall of Asia, and will be open to the public upon the Philippine premiere of Wicked: For Good. CJ 4DPLEX is part of the CJ Group conglomerate, which includes CJ ENM, the entertainment division that produced Bong Joon Ho’s award-winning film, Parasite.
Picking up where Wicked left off, Wicked: For Good follows Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) as they find themselves caught in a battle for Oz’s destiny. Fans can look forward to returning characters such as Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum), and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh).
Wicked: For Good opens in Philippine cinemas nationwide on November 19.
