We know movies like Praybeyt Benjamin and P.S. I Love You, and artists like Sarah Geronimo and Cup of Joe, thanks to one man: Viva Communications’ founder Vic del Rosario Jr., who was honored at the first-ever Rolling Stone Philippines Hall of Fame.
At the induction ceremony at Peninsula Manila on Thursday, November 20, del Rosario was presented the honor by actress Anne Curtis. She noted that del Rosario’s legacy includes 866 producer credits and “a veritable gallery showcasing films that became the stomping ground of his brightest stars, from Sharon Cuneta to Vice Ganda.”
Faced with drastic shifts to the media landscape during the pandemic, del Rosario ushered Viva Communications into the streaming era with platforms such as VMX and VivaOne, and continues to champion films, music, and shows that can easily be the next pop phenomenon. For his contributions to the media industries as the visionary behind Viva, del Rosario earned the “Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Kamera” Lifetime Achievement Award at the 40th PMPC Star Awards in 2024.
Accepting his Hall of Fame award, del Rosario said, “Maraming salamat sa suporta at galing ng mga Filipino artists.”
“With the growth of streaming in the Philippines and globally, I think Viva and the whole artist community would benefit from the rapid growth of the distribution of content globally,” he noted, before thanking his family for their support.
Other inductees into the inaugural Rolling Stone Philippines Hall of Fame include National Artist Kidlat Tahimik for Art, Charo Santos-Concio for Film and TV, Jessica Soho for Journalism, Paeng Nepomuceno for Sports, and Juan Dela Cruz Band for Music.
