Chappell Roan has finally spoken on her red carpet outfit at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, but only after fans and the internet freaked out over it. “Giggling because I don’t even think this is that outrageous of an outfit,” she said on Instagram as others argued whether it was tasteful or inappropriate.
Let’s make one thing clear: the outfit was a gag (in the gay way). The “Pink Pony Club” singer attended the 2026 Grammys in a custom Mugler dress that appeared to be held up by prosthetic nipple rings (in fact, it included a sleeved mesh top meant to blend into the skin), a burgundy remake of the dress worn by Belgian model Erica Vanbriel in Thierry Mugler’s 1998 spring couture show. The original dress was maybe even cooler, only since it actually clung to Vanbriel’s real nipple piercings, but maybe the internet wouldn’t have been able to handle that either.
“The look’s actually so awesome and weird,” Roan added. “I recommend just exercising your free will, it’s really fun and silly.”
Roan won Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammy Awards. This year, her single “The Subway” was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, but the awards went to Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” and Lola Young’s “Messy,” respectively.
