Alt Art returns this February 13-15 with a larger footprint and an expanded slate of exhibitions and public programs, taking over SMX Convention Center Halls 1 and 2.
Now in its fourth edition, the fair presents more than 300 artists across over 5,000 square meters of exhibition space, making it the collective’s most extensive outing to date. The growth reflects its continued “pro-artist” stance, prioritizing space for contemporary work to be presented thoughtfully while encouraging experimentation and critical dialogue.
Organized by a group of nine established galleries — Artinformal, Blanc, The Drawing Room, Galleria Duemila, Finale Art File, MO_Space, Underground, Vinyl on Vinyl, and West Gallery — Alt Art places emphasis on the overlap between art and music. This year’s edition positions music as part of the exhibition’s larger conversation. Below are the musicians whose works will be on exhibit at Alt Art.
Mario Consunji, ‘Shades of Thought’
A new piece from electronic music producer Mario Consunji centers music as a stream of consciousness, developed alongside a visual collaboration with visual artist TypeDistortDecay. The work suggests drifting through imagined scenarios, defined by subtle movements in composition. Consunji’s longstanding practice in ambient and synth textures stems from his interest in the line between noise and signal, raising the question of what we choose to pay attention to and why precision can exist within minimal spaces.
variatonen, ‘Seasons More Surreal’
Sound design producer variatonen collaborates with the visualizers of museumofmemory for a work that weaves sound, music, and cinema. Scenes from various films are layered with textured audio, forming music that feels dreamy while performing musical notes with colorful visuals on screen. The piece reflects on memory-making through abstract imagery, inviting viewers to engage beyond surface-level perception.
Tierra Malvada
Tierra Malvada, led by Goodleaf member Edy Varde and O.I. Research Partners frontman Vik Laugo, operates at the intersection of music improvisation. An unscripted, tension-laden dialogue between saxophone and guitar attempts to draw something raw from a “poisoned landscape.” Known for their work across dub, psych rock, and expansive soundscapes, the duo presents an aural sound installation that is likely to resonate sharply with attendees.
