It looks like we’ve all been waiting for the return of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The latest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has broken the record of most-watched trailer ever, bringing in a whopping 718.6 million views in just 24 hours.
According to Sony, which cites market research firm WaveMetrix, the trailer only took eight hours to top the previous record-holder, which was Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine at 365 million views. The trailer to the last Spider-Man blockbuster, No Way Home, was also a statistical success, generating 355.5 million views the same day it was released.
Picking up where No Way Home left off, Brand New Day sees a forlorn Peter Parker (Tom Holland) try to put his life together after everyone in the world — including MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) — forgets that he exists. Familiar faces in Brand New Day include Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and the Punisher (Jon Bernthal).
This latest addition to the Spider-Man franchise has already begun to generate a good amount of buzz online, as fans speculate which comic book arc director Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will officially bring into the MCU canon. One popular theory is the introduction of Man-Spider, or Peter Parker mutated into a humanoid spider. Another is the reveal that Sadie Sink’s character is Jean Grey, as hinted by the hooded figure in the trailer.
