Taguig City police have arrested former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player Mark Cardona after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at a bar in BGC.
A police report states that on Saturday, March 28, Cardona “suddenly” grabbed a 21-year-old woman’s hands and kissed her without consent, leading to a confrontation between her boyfriend and the ex-PBA star. According to the report, Cardona, who had “become aggressive,” also poked the boyfriend’s eyes as they approached the bouncer to report the incident. Cardona faces charges of physical injuries and acts of lasciviousness.
The Daily Tribune reports that Cardona had attempted to negotiate a financial settlement with the couple, but they declined. “I told him not everything is about money. If we allow this to happen, he’ll do it again to other women,” said the boyfriend.
This is not the first time Cardona has been arrested. In May 2018, Cardona was also arrested for allegedly stabbing his former partner in her Makati condominium, where her two children were also staying. In March 2021, he was also arrested on the charge of physical injuries after getting involved in a brawl with three others in BGC in February 2020.
Cardona played for the basketball teams Talk ‘N Text, Meralco, Air21, NLEX, and GlobalPort Batang Pier from 2005 to 2017.
