Country singer Ella Langley’s pop crossover single “Choosin’ Texas” is now the longest-running number one song in Billboard Hot 100 history. The single was first released in October 2025 under Dandelion, Langley’s sophomore album released last April. The single has surpassed R&B icon Mariah Carey’s legendary “All I Want for Christmas Is You” for the longest run at number one. “Choosin’ Texas” has so far spent about 23 weeks in the top spot compared to Carey’s 22 weeks.
“Choosin’ Texas” tells the story of a narrator who is from Tennessee, being heartbroken over their lover who chooses a different person who is from Texas. According to Rolling Stone, Langley spoke about how the song was able to resonate with a wider audience.
“Everyone can relate to wanting something that doesn’t want you back, whether it be a relationship or a job,” Langley says. “I’m giving my heart to people a lot. And that’s scary to constantly do, because no one wants their heart broken.”
According to Billboard, Carey has a chance of retaking the spot once again when the holiday season hits in a couple of months.
