Lena Dunham’s Girls is getting the And Just Like That… treatment. 10 years after the HBO dramedy ended in 2017, Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet are reuniting as the un-fab four in a five-episode revival of the show.

It is currently unconfirmed whether Adam Driver will reprise his role as Adam, Hannah Horvath’s (Dunham) on-again, off-again boyfriend, but Andrew Rannells will return as Elijah, her ex-boyfriend-turned-gay friend. Judd Apatow is also returning as executive .

“I’m in, but only because you trash cans need constant supervision,” Rannells quipped in an Instagram video announcing the revival.

Girls, which ran from 2012 to 2017, follows four women, Hannah, Marnie Michaels (Williams), Jessa Johansson (Kirke), and Shoshanna Shapiro (Mamet), as they navigate their chaotic 20s in New York City. The revival will see the characters where they are years later, Dunham suggests in a Substack post.

“There was a long period in which it was impossible to imagine reconvening Girls — it felt so recent and so big, like a glacier we were sailing away from,” the actress and showrunner wrote. “Then, I turned forty. I thought about the distance I felt — having not yet had a child, having come ‘later’ to marriage, having gone very fast in certain ways and still having some challenges with the washing machine.”

She adds, “We are not, strictly speaking, girls anymore. We couldn’t be called precocious, coquettish, or fawn-like. We are older than notorious literary spinsters Bridget Jones, Miss Havisham, and Blanche DuBois. And I couldn’t stop thinking about where our Girls would be, and how they’d meet this milestone.”

According to Variety, production for the new Girls episodes is set to start in 2027.
