If there’s anything to blame cancel culture for, it’s that we never see celebrities duking it out on social media anymore. But this week, stans on X saw rappers Nicki Minaj and Cardi B drop the niceties in what might just be the biggest and nastiest celebrity Twitter feud in a long time, and it reminds us once more why people need to be nicer to each other online.
Minaj and Cardi have been at each other’s throats for years, almost ever since Cardi rose to fame with the 2017 hit “Bodak Yellow,” with fans comparing the then-newcomer to her fellow New York City native. The two have only collaborated once, on the Migos track “MotorSport,” but it’s been downhill from there.
In 2018, the two reportedly got into a fight at a New York Fashion Week event, prompting Cardi to release a statement on Instagram, where she insinuated that Minaj made comments about Cardi’s child, Kulture. “I addressed you once in person, I addressed you a second time in person, and every time you copped the plea! But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, [and] make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are fuckin’ off!”
Minaj, however, denied making such comments saying, “I, Onika Tanya Maraj, would never speak ill on anyone’s child” on her Apple Music show Queen Radio.
This would change in early October 2025.
Nearly two weeks after the release of Cardi’s latest album AM I THE DRAMA?, Minaj took to X to write a long post addressing Cardi as “Barney B” and saying “I know you don’t know this, but some women plan their pregnancies.”
In response, Cardi said, “Girl it’s your son [sic] birthday why are you on Twitter dedicating essays to me? For the love of God, go to Chuckie [sic] Cheese.”
Later on, she followed the post up: “How you pressed over an album you ain’t got hit in or mentioned in?”
With that, the two continued a very nasty verbal spat, where Minaj repeatedly referred to Cardi’s daughter as “Kulture Vulture,” saying she would kick the child’s teeth in and insulting her appearance. Cardi, on the other hand, also mentioned Minaj’s son Papa Bear, alleging that the “Super Bass” star’s drug use might have affected the child’s development.
“You just mad cuz your son fav color is 5,” said Cardi, who has since received criticism for using language discriminatory against disabled people.
“Kulture Vulture you ugly too,” Minaj said. She also started taking jabs at Jay-Z and told the rapper to “take off that fucking lace front.”
But after trading vicious words for over a day, Minaj and Cardi seemed ready to put the matter to rest in later tweets. Minaj said, “Okay Barbz, peace and love. I’ll pray for you, my darlings,” and, in a separate post, “Aaand scene.”
In her own long post, Cardi said it would be the last time she addressed Minaj, telling her, “You need to get help! You need to heal that trauma.”
For now, it’s safe to say that Minaj and Cardi have wrapped up their feud once more, but there’s no telling when the fires will be stoked again, and by whom. Let’s hope they leave their kids out of it next time, though.
