5 Revelations From the ‘Single’s Inferno Reunion’

The biggest shock, however, might just be how Seung Il was the real villain of the season

The first-ever Single’s Inferno Reunion did not disappoint.

The Korean dating show just wrapped its fifth season, bringing an end to the couples and love triangles that graced Inferno this year — or so we thought. The six-episode reunion, which dropped on Netflix on February 14, brought the former contestants together to see how things had changed for them outside of the island.

While some couples stayed together, others either fizzled out or ended up cutting ties with each other completely (ahem, Seung Il) after the season wrapped. A lot is revealed in this reunion mini-series, so we’ve taken the liberty of putting together the most important revelations it’s brought with it.

Spoilers ahead.

5. Jim Jae Jin and Lee Joo Young are Doing Well

Although the two don’t outright say they’re in a relationship, even their fellow cast members can tell that Joo Young and Jae Jin are considerably closer than they were in Inferno. During her confessional, Joo Young admitted that they’d been in touch regularly, with Jae Jin even coming to one of her art exhibitions. She, in turn, had been to his dance shows.

“To the people who are curious about us,” said Jae Jin in Korean during his own confessional, “I am serious about my desire to… get to know Joo Young more.”

4. Lim Su Been and Park Hee Sun are Making Things Work

Before this season of Single’s Inferno officially came to an end, rumors were already circling regarding Su Been and Hee Sun’s relationship status (there was even an Instagram story floating around that showed the two watching their season together). The reunion has confirmed that the two continued to date for a month after production wrapped, but they had to press pause while Hee Sun returned to the United States for her studies.

Despite that break, however, it looks like the two spent a lot of the reunion’s winter retreat cosying up and having earnest conversations about how to move forward in their relationship. Hee Sun even brought up how Su Been’s slow text messages (every two or three days) during their first few weeks apart made her lose a lot of sleep. “I thought maybe I should move on before my feelings grew,” said Su Been, “but I ended up not deciding to think about that.” The two ended up calling around five days a week for six months, and now Hee Sun has decided to return to Korea as an exchange student at Seoul National University.

3. Even Choi Mina Sue Didn’t Like What She Was Doing in Inferno

Oh, Mina Sue! As part of the reunion, the former contestants were split into groups of three and asked to watch a preview of their season a month before it officially began streaming on Netflix. During her screening, Mina Sue couldn’t stop herself from either cringing at her own behavior on the island or apologizing to the other contestants in her viewing group.

“I’m surprised at myself for coming across as so shallow,” said Mina Sue. The former pageant queen even needed to have a heart-to-heart with Kim Min Gee after their viewing to clear things up about complaining about her in Inferno.

Mina Sue also revealed during her confessional that things had fizzled out between her and her final Single’s Inferno partner, Lee Sung Hun. “Life in Inferno wasn’t very smooth for me,” said Mina Sue. “Looking at Sung Hun brought back those memories. I didn’t really like that, to be honest.”

2. Jo I Geon May Have a Chance with Kim Go Eun

In what was arguably the biggest fumble of the season, I Geon managed to sour things so completely with Go Eun that she ended up choosing Woo Sung Min as her final partner. Despite having gone to Paradise with her (twice!) and consistently remaining as one of her top choices of men, I Geon couldn’t fully express his feelings for Go Eun, costing him the chance to leave Inferno with her in the finale.

But all hope might not be lost. After their group’s screening, the two talked about how they both wished they’d been more communicative while in Inferno. “I don’t think I knew what you were feeling and thinking,” said I Geon. Go Eun agreed, and she also revealed that she and Sung Min were no longer dating.

I Geon and Go Eun ended up going out for drinks after their screening, and you can watch the entirety of their bar date in Episode 4.

1. Song Seung Il Ghosted Kim Min Gee

Seung Il and Min Gee seemed like one of the stronger couples in Inferno (despite some interference from Mina Sue), but things turned out differently after the season wrapped.

“We only kept in touch a little bit,” said Seung Il during his confessional, while also claiming that he and Min Gee are close friends.

However, Min Gee said that they hadn’t kept in touch at all. “It was actually more one-sided,” she said of their relationship after Single’s Inferno. “I don’t know how to describe how we’re doing. It’s a bit complicated because things were cut off from his end. The person I liked is still stuck in Inferno.”
