BABYMETAL will finally make their Philippine debut on October 8 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The long-awaited stop marks a significant moment for the trio, who were originally slated to perform in Manila in 2020 as part of Pulp Summer Slam XX. The festival was supposed to feature Iron Maiden, Death Angel, and Dragonforce. It was eventually canceled as the pandemic shut the world down. Four years later, the Japanese act is set to fulfill what they once only promised.
The group’s journey has been far from easy. One of their founding members, Yuimetal, left the group in 2018, altering the chemistry that fans had come to love. That same year, tragedy struck when one of their longtime session guitarists Ko-Gami died in an accident. Rather than halting their progress, the remaining members used these losses to strengthen their resolve, staying committed to their fusion of heavy metal and J-pop aesthetics. The duo of Su-metal and Moametal kept the group’s name alive and, eventually, expanded again.
In 2023, BABYMETAL returned to full trio status with the addition of MOMOMETAL, debuting the updated lineup on their album The Other One. The record embraced darker themes while keeping the band’s signature blend of aggression and absurdity intact. From breakneck guitar riffs to choreographed cuteness, their live shows have always been their most persuasive argument and Filipino fans are finally getting their turn. This show won’t just be another date on the tour schedule. For longtime listeners who’ve waited nearly a decade to see BABYMETAL on a local stage, it’s a full-circle moment.
Tickets for BABYMETAL Live in Manila will go on sale June 14 via Ticketnet online.
