Garapata fans, rejoice: artist Dex Fernandez, the mind behind the adorable flea-shaped creature that’s turned into a global creative brand, has announced a new piece of Garapata merchandise.
The black tote bag features a minimalist, flea-like angry face, along with what appears to be five tentacles hanging from its base. “This new species [is] called Manster,” Fernandez told Rolling Stone Philippines, “and I think it’s a social commentary on our shitty situation with our government. We are furious, beast mode na. Pero cute pa rin.”
Fernandez continued by explaining that he hopes the “little Manster” can serve as a stylish expression of people’s frustration and anger with the current political climate. “Art is an alternative way to express our feelings, political or not,” said Fernandez.
The Manster is a limited edition piece of merchandise, available at the Garapata Store in Cubao Expo, Quezon City.
