As PENSHOPPE celebrates its 40th anniversary in October, it brings home Chicago-based Filipino streetwear brand ABAKADA for its first-ever PENSHOPPE Designer Lab.
Founded in 2018 by Arvin Boyon and Calvin Calma, ABAKADA previously worked with the Chicago Bulls on the basketball team’s crewneck sweaters only made available during a matchup with the Golden State Warriors in February 2025. This time, Boyon and Calma collaborate with a homegrown retail giant to bring their pieces to Filipino consumers.
According to PENSHOPPE, the Designer Lab is a platform to bring the brand together with “distinct creative voices and develop limited-edition collections that explore new perspectives in fashion.” Its first edition comprises a 23-piece collection that blends ABAKADA’s Filipino-inspired streetwear with PENSHOPPE’s “accessible approach to fashion.”
The limited-edition collection will be launched in October on the PENSHOPPE App and in select PENSHOPPE stores nationwide, with an exclusive first look at select pieces at PURVEYR Fair from September 12 to 13.
Updates on PENSHOPPE Designer Lab: ABAKADA can be found on PENSHOPPE’s official social media channels and app.
