Plan Ahead, Metro Manila Has a 5-Day Long Weekend in November

This year, the Philippines assumed the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with the 49th ASEAN Summit set to be held on November 16, 17, and 18. Malacañang has thereby declared the three dates as special non-working days in the National Capital Region to “alleviate traffic” and “secure the safety of participants in the said event.” 

Should you want to book your November vacations, it’s best to do so from Saturday, November 14 until Wednesday, November 18. You may even extend by filing leave from Thursday, November 19 to Friday, November 20.

Note that special non-working holidays have varying pay rules, with most companies applying the “no work, no pay” principle unless there is a company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on a special day.

The 49th ASEAN Summit will see various ASEAN leaders gather in the country, with an “anticipated” yet unconfirmed attendance by United States President Donald Trump. The world leaders will discuss strategic priorities on peace and security, economic integration, and people empowerment, among others. 

The Palace further requested civil and activist groups to defer planned demonstrations, saying that they hope to welcome the guests peacefully instead.
