Vice President Sara Duterte once again launched scathing attacks against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday, September 11, this time as she faces a legal battle over alleged grave threats against him and other members of the First Family. She was scheduled for arraignment on the same day, but it was subsequently deferred after her defense team filed a motion to postpone.
Speaking to her supporters outside the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC), Duterte said she could not bring herself to leave and remain silent after seeing Filipinos swim in the flood and struggle to provide for their families. “Dahil nakikita ko kayong hirap na hirap para sa inyong pamilya, at nakita ko mismo sa mga mata ko ang abuso ni Marcos,” she said.
“Tandaan ninyo, patuloy tayong manawagan ng paglayas ng problema ng ating bayan na ang pangalan ay Bongbong Marcos. Resign, umalis ka dyan!” the vice president added.
She further accused the president of being a liar, ungrateful to the Filipino people who voted for him, and called him an addict, claiming that he has lost touch with reality. She urged Filipinos to continue fighting against what she described as “abusado,” “adik,” and corrupt officials.
“Wala siyang utang na loob sa taong bayan. Wala siyang hiya,” said Duterte.
Duterte told reporters that she has been feeling threatened and harassed since 2023, adding that she does not “feel safe” but still has work to do.
On September 4, the Quezon City RTC issued a warrant of arrest against Duterte for charges of grave threats she made during an online press conference in 2024. In the briefing, she claimed that she had ordered the assassination of Marcos, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos should she be killed first. Duterte later argued that her remarks were “maliciously taken out of logical context.” She posted bail on September 5 totaling P360,000.
This grave threats case is also tied to the ongoing impeachment trial before the Senate, where Duterte is facing allegations of misuse of confidential funds, corruption, bribery, unexplained wealth, and betrayal of public trust.
Malacañang, meanwhile, has yet to issue a response to Duterte’s recent calls. They previously said they “respect” any decision or order given by the court.
