Singer-songwriter Davey Langit died on Tuesday, October 21, his wife Therese Villarante-Langit confirmed. He was 38. Langit’s acoustic-driven songwriting inspired a generation of young musicians who looked to his sincerity and craftsmanship as a model for their own work. He is known for writing and performing hits such as “Wedding Song” and “Selfie Song.” His composition “Dalawang Letra,” performed by the Itchyworms, won the Grand Prize at the 2016 Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs competition. Langit also helped pen tracks for Pinoy Dream Academy winner Yeng Constantino, including “Cool Off” and “Time In.”

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Villarante-Langit remembered her husband as someone who “loved life” to the fullest.

No official cause of death was announced. However, Langit revealed on his Facebook profile that he had been diagnosed with a rare spinal infection back in August. In the video, the couple shared their difficult journey to find answers to his worsening back pain and expressed gratitude for the love and support they received from family, fans, and friends. Singer Ogie Alcasid and other artists also paid tribute to Langit, describing him as a kind soul and a cornerstone of the local singer-songwriter community.

Langit rose to fame in 2006 as a contestant on the first season of Pinoy Dream Academy, where his performances of James Ingram’s “There’s No Easy Way” and Sharon Cuneta’s “Miss Kita Kung Christmas” showcased his natural vocal tone and emotional control. His work remains a vital part of OPM’s acoustic and heartfelt songwriting tradition.
