Don’t believe everything you read online.
On November 10, a Facebook account titled ShowBuzz shared an image of people giving out donations, with Kathryn Bernardo’s name misleadingly used in the caption’s first line.
“Kathryn Bernardo tumulong nang taos-puso at hindi para sa camera o social media,” the post reads. It continues by pulling a quote from an unnamed netizen, saying, “Ang kabutihang galing sa puso ay hindi dapat gawing content o pagkakakitaan.”
Many of ShowBuzz’s previous posts follow a similar format, in which a high-profile figure in Philippine politics or the local entertainment industry is featured in a post’s visuals, combined with a quote from an unnamed netizen.
In response to the platform’s post about Bernardo, Star Magic released an official statement informing the public that the post has no connection to the actress.
“[O]ur artist Kathryn Bernardo did not make the remark that is circulating on social media,” read the statement. “We ask everyone not to share the fake post and verify information before sharing.” Bernardo also reshared the statement via Instagram Stories.
As of writing, ShowBuzz’s post currently has over 4,000 reactions and 6,000 comments. It has yet to be taken down by the platform.
