On Friday, March 21, Philippine journalism’s best and brightest are coming together for a panel discussion titled, “Journalism in the Age of Big Tech: How to Survive in the Midst of Disinformation.” Taking its lead is Atom Araullo, broadcast journalist, TV presenter, and co-founder of community-oriented independent news outfit FYT Media.
As a host of some of the biggest Philippine news and documentary programs, like 24 Oras, i-Witness, and State of the Nation, Araullo has brought the country’s most powerful stories and pressing issues to the people. This work earned him accolades like the Platinum Stallion Media Award for Most Trusted Field Reporter in 2015 and the PMPC Star Award for Best Morning Show Host in 2018.
He also won World’s Best TV and Film at the 2017 New York Festivals for his documentary Warmer. The documentary tackles the effects of global warming in the Artex Compound, a floating community in the city of Malabon, and how the country of Norway is addressing climate change.
Social issues are central to Araullo’s work as a journalist, and it’s a core fortified not only through his fieldwork but also through his education and upbringing.
In December 2024, Araullo won a landmark lawsuit against Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) hosts Jeffrey Celiz and Lorraine Badoy, who had red-tagged him and his mother, former Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Chairperson Carol Pagaduan Araullo.

After his interview with veteran journalist Marites Vitug for Rolling Stone Philippines, Araullo is now set to take the stage at Rolling Stone Philippines LIVE! Catch him and other industry movers discussing the challenges of traditional media, journalism in the age of big tech, the rise in citizen reporting, and the future of investigative journalism.
