It’s been exactly 25 years since Regine Velasquez took on a legendary performance on top of The Peninsula Manila to ring in the new millennium. “Written in the Sand” was the country’s official anthem to welcome 2000 as the often bustling Ayala Avenue in Makati was transformed as the setting for the Asia’s Songbird’s history-marking turn. That same performance was recreated at last New Year Eve countdown with Velasquez herself turning back the clock 24 years later.
This December 31, Ayala Avenue is set to channel that same iconic feeling with this year’s New Year’s Eve countdown featuring performances by BINI and Gary V.
This year’s countdown, titled “Radiating on Top” as inspired by the theme of radiating joy, growth, and positivity for the new year, is set to host an exciting line-up of the country’s best performing artists of the year. Apart from Bini and Gary V, the countdown headliners include rock band Lola Amour, select cast members from some of the year’s most popular theatrical performances (One More Chance, Bar Boys, Going Home to Christmas, etc.), drag queen Marina Summers, rapper Gloc-9, and rock icon Bamboo. The event also boasts a pre-show with DJs Brian Cua and Mike Lavet performing sets and with established hosts Ai Dela Cruz and Justin Quirino leading the event.
Festivities start as early as 12 p.m. on Ayala Avenue between The Manila Peninsula and Shangri-La Makati and will also feature a wide array of food merchants throughout the day. The main program will commence closer to 6 p.m., and an outdoor dance floor will host an after party at a nearby location for those who want to keep the party going after midnight.
While admission to the event is free, attendees can also pay for special ticketed sections, such as a mosh pit section or a VIP seating section for a more exclusive experience. To learn more, visit the event’s official website.
