Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda will receive its first live-action adaptation. On November 17, Nintendo game director Shigeru Miyamoto shared a set of first look photos from the production on X, revealing Bo Bragason in the role of Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. The images show the two iconic characters sitting together in a wide green field. Bragason’s Zelda wears a blue tunic with a quiver of arrows on her back, while Ainsworth’s Link appears in his green tunic. The Master Sword, a fixture of the games from the opening moments, does not appear in the early images.

“This is Miyamoto. Filming is underway for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda in a lush, natural setting, with Bo Bragason-san who will play Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san who will play Link,” Miyamoto wrote in a statement posted with the photos. He added that production remains on track for a May 7, 2027 release.
Plot details remain tightly guarded. Director Wes Ball told Entertainment Weekly that he wants the adaptation to work as a fantasy adventure film that can stand alongside long-running franchises such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy. His comment set the tone for a project that aims to bring one of gaming’s most recognizable titles into a broader film landscape.Nintendo’s move follows the commercial success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, which introduced the studio’s characters to a new wave of younger viewers and revived interest in large-scale game adaptations.
