Hulu just dropped the trailer for the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers, and it looks like our Dolly De Leon is playing… a nun?
Based on Liane Moriarty’s juicy 2018 mystery novel of the same name, Nine Perfect Strangers follows — you guessed it! — nine total strangers who sign up for a ten-day getaway at a swanky, snowy wellness resort. But this isn’t your average spa retreat. With the ever-enigmatic Masha Dmitrichenko (Nicole Kidman) calling the shots, things quickly turn from zen to sinister, with a healthy dose of drama, secrets, and scandal.
Eagle-eyed fans of De Leon — who entered the international spotlight in 2022 for her show-stealing performance in the black comedy Triangle of Sadness — may have noticed new details of the lore behind De Leon’s character. While little has been revealed about the second season’s plot in general, this latest trailer sees De Leon, one of the strangers at the resort, sitting up in bed underneath a bright, glaring spotlight (potentially in a dream sequence?). And it seems the strangers won’t just be battling the present — ghosts from their pasts are coming too. De Leon appears in one flashback as a nun (complete with an all-white habit), comforting a sobbing patient before kneeling to pray in an empty church.
Other elements of the story seem to be taking shape. We’re not quite sure what she’s up to just yet, but it looks like Kidman will be brewing some ominous, potion-y wellness cocktails for her patients. Pop singer King Princess, who plays one of the strangers, can be seen drinking one of Kidman’s cocktails. The trailer ends with most, if not all, of the resort group having some sort of nervous breakdown.
The second season of Nine Perfect Strangers streams on Hulu starting May 21.
