Pop artists Sky Ferreira and Charli XCX are at the center of a growing online dispute following claims tied to Charli’s Wuthering Heights album, with Ferreira suggesting that some of the material traces back to her earlier work.

The exchange escalated on April 4 after Ferreira responded to a fan on Instagram, writing, “I hate to break it to you, but your favorite artist records my old songs,” in reference to resurfaced discussions around unreleased demos. Earlier claims circulating online alleged that multiple tracks from the album were derived from older Ferreira sessions. Ferreira later pushed back on rumors from fans online, adding, “Your industry ‘insider’ is wrong. Close but wrong…It isn’t worth the trouble bc I know how the world works,” she says.

Ferreira is officially credited on “Eyes of the World” as a featured artist, co-writer, and vocal producer. Further comments pointed to unresolved tensions tied to her past work and industry experience, dating back to the release of her 2013 single “Everything Is Embarrassing.” She added, “I wasn’t going to say anything… It brought back a lot of things I have worked really hard to move past.”

In a statement provided to Billboard on April 5, Charli’s team said that all songwriting credits on Wuthering Heights were finalized through a standard review process involving artists, managers, and legal representatives, with all parties consulted before release. Ferreira exited her previous label, Capitol Records, in 2023, shortly after the 10th anniversary of her debut album Night Time, My Time, and signed with a new label in 2025, but she hasn’t named the label yet as of this writing. Ferreira’s latest single “Leash” was released for the Babygirl Original Soundtrack under A24 Music back in 2024.
